Matthijs de Ligt will make his first appearance in 325 days after being named in Manchester United's starting XI to face Como in the Champions League. De Ligt has not featured since United beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on November 30 2025 having been sidelined with a persistent back injury. The Dutchman has featured as an unused substitute against Atletico Madrid and Leeds, but with Michael Carrick only having three other senior defenders available to him, De Ligt returns to the line-up, partnering Harry Maguire.
Leny Yoro is suspended following his red card against Atletico, while Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw are not with the squad due to illness and injury. Harry Amass is the most senior defender on the bench for United, with the 19-year-old having made eight first-team appearances for the club. Do you believe starting De Ligt was the right call? Or should he have been eased back into action? Have your say in our poll: Team to play Como: Lammens, Dalot, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Maguire, Mount, Fernandes, Cunha, Santos, Tielemans, Mbeumo. Subs: Darlow, Heaton, Amass, Armer, Kamason, Baleba, J. Fletcher, T. Fletcher, Amad, Lacey, Thompson, Zirkzee.
